Endodontics is one of the nine recognized fields of dentistry. Endodontics focuses on diagnosing and treating problems in the dental pulp, or innermost layer of the tooth. The pulp includes the living connective tissue and cells of the tooth as well as the nerves and blood vessels. When the pulp is injured, infected, diseased or decayed, it can cause the tooth to die and lead to an extraction. Significant pain and sensitivity may also be experienced if the pulp is injured in any way. The goal of endodontic treatment is to restore the health of the tooth and prevent it from being extracted.

The most common endodontic treatment is root canal therapy. Root canals involve removing injured and infected tissues in order to save the tooth, and they culminate with a crown being placed on the tooth to protect it from future infection and damage.

There are a variety of endodontic procedures that may be recommended. Our in-house endodontist will work with you to determine which procedure will be most effective for you.
